Broker's Comments

This Tjalk Hollandaise is a sought-after classic ex-working sailing barge with a huge amount of character and history. She started as a trading barge in the south of Holland, had a brief spell owned by the church as a houseboat during WWII assisting people bombed out of their homes and then was found and restored by two extremely knowledgeable enthusiasts who have both lived aboard and sailed her at sea and through the canals.

More recently she has fallen on harder times after the passing of her owner and now needs repainting and possibly some recommissioning before she sails again. Engine heard running and engaging gear November 2023 (see video)

She does appear to be complete; her rig is easily lowered and stowed for canal transits or transport and although she is not fully modernised she is well enough equipped to make the most fantastic (if quirky) liveaboard. There is a possibility that she could remain on her berth, subject to approval by the yard.

This really is a boat that has to be seen to be fully appreciated for what she is and what she could be again. We'd be very happy to show you around!
